SWANA’s Applied Research Foundation identifies causes and solutions including the recruitment of female drivers
Latest trucking statistics show that the shortage of over-the-road (OTR) truck drivers in the U.S. is at the highest level it has been in 15 years–a driver shortage mirrored in the waste collection industry.
According to a new report, Recruiting Personnel for Solid Waste Collection Services, by the Solid Waste Association of North America’s (SWANA) Applied Research Foundation (ARF), some causes for the driver shortage are:
- Competing demands for trucking services
- Aging workforce
- Low participation of women
- Tightening of eligibility requirements
The full report, Recruiting Personnel for Solid Waste Collection Services, is available free to SWANA members. The report will be available for purchase to the general public in January, 2021.
